We Will Not Be Silenced – Launch Tomorrow!

We Will Not Be Silenced: The Lived Experience of Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault, Told Powerfully Through Poetry, Prose, Essay and Art is in the best seller #1 position for Poetry Anthologies and the #1 New Release in Women’s Poetry on Amazon!

Disciple of love – Candice Daquin

When I met you, I had no tears

When you left me, I had too many

They didn’t stop

Though all the experts

On saline tear production

Proclaimed they would

Miss Daquin do not fear, they said

You will simply dry up, just wait

For a hot flash

Or a cold night

I told them

I have both

As for the cold night

That is now etched in ivy crept stone

Who thought before middle age

I’d be an old maid searching shelves for other parts of thrown-away women?

With no touch, no kiss, no arms wrapped around this

Hurt and lonely soul of water and menses

Snap out of it, my dance teacher said

You can

Have sex with cigarette smoking strangers

Learn self emulation

Or eat hot chili sauce with three layers of lipstick

And if you dance as gracefully as you talk

Well … Whose to stop the admirers?

Was a bird-like creature

Who would be tap dancing at ninety

But I

Was a disciple of love

And so the idea of swapping bodily fluids

With a thin-lipped voodoo stranger

Found on matchmaker site

Or a familiar face

Sitting by me in coffee shop sharing saucer as ashtray

Or lonely friend

Turning acquaintance to waxy want

Did not appeal

I had no more desire than if

I were asked to receive a house guest

Who didn’t wash

I was already

In my mouth of youth

An island of one woman

Yes I said

How did you know I am smarting? Convulsing?

Even I wasn’t aware

Except afterward thinking

When the school playground tasted of coal

And red fences were unchallenged

The way other children were already sulphur and minerals

How I seemed to be

Strange and boneless in comparison

Considering that great gendered emptiness

Swallowed in partial payment for not fitting jelly mould

I’ll take the rest of you, when you succumb

Did I mention I was a disciple of love?

And you, my ruination, supplied exact temperature

In everything you didn’t know you did

Filling the yelling bones of my chest

How could I have let you?

When I knew you were bred on cruel

Because cruelty I was used to

It seemed a still, varnished, normal

I trusted it more

Than kindness which would be snatched

Away like a lacquer fan

Broken into its false pieces

Only to take another form and try again

I think of those times

They are thicker than my fidgeting blood

All the answers were there

Blatant and dripping

And still I walked into you

Still I walked into you

Still I walked into you

It was November ~ the month of crimson sunsets, parting birds, deep, sad hymns of the sea, passionate wind-songs in the pines.

A Week of New Writers/ Seeking Editors on Sudden Denouement

Make sure to stop by Sudden Denouement next week for the debut of the new Collective members

Sudden Denouement Collective

PUBLISHED by catsmob.com

Every day next week we will be presenting a new Sudden Denouement writer. We have received an enormous amount of submissions and have five new writers to present–there may be more. We have received amazing submissions from all over the world, and I have personally enjoyed reading each one.

Additionally, we will be seeking two new editors. Anyone interested in becoming an editor for SD, please contact me (jasperkerkauwriting@gmail.com).

The duties of an editor are communicating with writers, submitting works, and helping in the decision making process of SD. It is an unpaid position, as we are all unpaid, but it is very rewarding. Those considered would need to possess  a shared understanding of our vision. This job is not limited to Sudden Denouement Literary Collective, but also includes Sudden Denouement Publishing.

Lastly, Sudden Denouement is being re-branded as A Global Literary Collective. A minor change, but I want it…

‘I Am A World Of Uncertainties Disguised As A Girl’ written by author and poet Nicole Lyons, is a breathtaking collection of poems that blurs the lines between love and madness. A sorceress of words, Nicole Lyons takes the reader to the edge of the abyss of creativity, sanity, and love, and asks the question, ‘can one survive both a broken heart and a broken mind?’

Questions and Answers

How did Whisper and the Roar come about?

Whisper and the Roar was at once a gift to me from Jasper Kerkau and a direct response to Trump and the fact that he’s a trigger. I am a lot of things. I am a feminist, I am a minority, I am an outlaw, I have been so downtrodden I’m surprised I don’t have permanent boot tracks across my face.

I’m not the only one. It used to feel that way, so I found comfort in poetry. We need to connect and unite in this time of hatred and oppression. It sounds lame, but love and understanding can make the difference between life or death. It has for me and I know it can for others.

What are the goals of Whisper and the Roar moving forward?

I am giving recognition to poets who deserve it and voices to the voiceless, but also, I aim to give relateable poetry to marginalized people. I hope that the contributing members of Whisper and the Roar will connect with each other and their audience and find comfort here. I hope we can spread our messages far and wide. Changing minds would be awesome, but my main goal is to comfort the minds that are already on our side and aching, so that they can then go on to change the world, or at least, to be ok.

My nominations for the Daisy award are (already nominated elsewhere:
