time out – mb

i’ve made you angry
i question not to judge
not to hold accountable
it’s just self preservation
i refuse to die of a venereal disease
a few months back i had a crush
i cast out my fisher girl’s fly
you nibbled i invited
you ignited a fire that spread too quickly
you an excellently talented lay
me a very willing convenience fuck
from the beginning of the race
my stats were clearly posted
of broad mind and precocious personality
but i only make you angry
when i really don’t mind
if you suck the neighbor’s cock
i’m cool if you want exploration
don’t politicize the situation babe
let me remind you for your record
you came on your own to me
i’ll take the tumble with some protection
a girl needs some stress release too
but don’t give me bullshit excuses
when you know what i’ve been through
i’m crushing on your lustful ways
and the sweetness that you randomly give
when we lock lips and genitals
the gods above do sing
you can get angry at me
for leaving you mid way
i’ll overlook a lot of things
but don’t think that for a second
you’ll have me as your slave

FEATURED POST: CRUSH – GEORGIANN CARLSON

a brief
or intense
infatuation
that’s the definition
of a crush
brief
intense
moments
of focus
where everything
is blocked out
except the one
who is desired
infatuation
a short lived
passion
and for some
that’s all they want
they are addicted
to fast and easy
to moving on
to the thrill
and excitement
of new
of firsts
love doesn’t interest them
they simply want a burst
of heat
of emotion
of sensory overload
and then
they just want
to start again
they’re in it
for the rush
for the thrill
for the never ending
beginnings

I’m an artist, a writer, a vegetarian, an animal rights activist, and quite a few other things as well. I love books, cats, philosophy, good conversation, Chicago and the arts. Crush – Carol Jewell

Right in front of me,
unseen.
What did I miss,
how didn’t I know?

Whether fictional
or real,
you were
all real
to me.
I loved you
but, was it just a crush?

Came out at thirty-nine,
surprised myself.
I fondly remember thanking
Aretha Franklin’s breasts
for bringing me to the light.

But if I had figured it out
when I was young and naïve
how different my life would be now.

Some things are better left
unknown,
until they have matured,
ripened,
in their own time.

Carol H. Jewell is a musician, teacher, librarian, and poet living in Upstate New York with her wife, Becky, and their seven cats. She reads constantly, being insatiably curious.

Christine’s Daily Writing Prompt: Crush – Jane Futcher

Throughout the month of September, Christine will be providing a daily writing prompt based on the title of a well-regarded book where the main character is a lesbian or a woman exploring her sexual identity. You certainly don’t need to be a lesbian or even a woman to participate, nor does your response piece need to be written from a lesbian perspective.  These are designed to inspire you to write a poem, prose piece, or a piece of flash fiction in 30 minutes or less.

The only rule is that you use the book title as your piece title OR integrate all the words in the title into your piece somehow

If you would like to have your piece considered for publication on Brave and Reckless and/or Whisper and the Roar, email your prompt inspired pieces to Christine at her.red.pen.wordsmithing@gmail.com.

You can also participate on Facebook by tagging your writing with:
